VIII Project Network
In an important development related to the Corridor VIII project,
the AATDA AL has entered into an agreement, the South East Europe
Trade and Investment Initiative (SEETII), with the Macedonian Business
Development Center of Skopje, the Kosovo Business Support program
of Preshtina, and the FLAG program of Sofia to cooperate in regional
economic and business development efforts. It links four of the
participating members of the Corridor VIII project that represent
the private sector.
In a meeting held on June 19-20, representatives of the four organizations
and others met in Skopje to discuss a program of mutual cooperation
to give more emphasis to regional development. The mission of SEETII
will be “to improve the competitive position of the region
and ensure increased and sustainable prosperity of the region and
its people. The SEETI, by facilitating the activities of the business
community in the region, will try to make the region on of the most
stable territories economically, politically and socially.”
On July 17 in Tirana, the four organizations adopted the following
program.
The mission will be carried out through a host of activities designed
to improve business competitiveness; improve regional coherence;
and improve physical infrastructure, including transportation, information
and communications technology.
SEETII projects and activities will include:
- Conferences
and events—such as B2B meetings, general seminars on regional
trade and investment, roundtables involving top business leaders
of the region, specialized workshops on specific trade and investment
issues, client-commercial officer meetings, trade fairs and related
events
- General Information
and Guides—including linkages of databases in order to provide
clients with on-time, accurate, systematic and selective information
on regional markets, business start-up information guide for the
region, a regional business directory, and small business regional
magazine
- Improvements
in the legal framework for small business start-up and operations.
- Support for
Corridor VIII development as well as development of other transportation
infrastructure improvements
- Projects
in support of regional economic development and the creation of
an environment in which wealth and job creation will flourish,
including work to promote labor flexibility, business success
and the removal of trade barriers within the region
